Description
Henri Biva (1848–1929) was a painter from Montmartre, best known for his naturalist landscapes and scenes of gardens and rivers. He belonged to the realist and naturalist tradition, and he paid meticulous attention to light and the details of nature.
Her works often exude a peaceful and poetic atmosphere, highlighting color nuances and the play of light. Biva regularly exhibited at the Paris Salon and was appreciated for the delicacy of her rendering.
Our painting, painted on canvas and signed in the lower left by Henri Biva, depicts an elegant floral arrangement, where a large bouquet of roses and violets occupies the center of the composition, placed in a pot with Japanese-inspired motifs set on a copper tray. Beside it, a small bouquet of violets rests in a silver pot, bringing a delicate contrast of size and color. On the same table, a decorative fan, also Japanese-inspired, enriches the scene and adds a touch of exoticism. Faithful to his naturalist style, Biva plays with light and textures, rendering the flowers and objects particularly realistic while creating a calm and refined atmosphere.
