Terms and Conditions - CoinsTree

Terms and Conditions

These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) constitute a legally binding agreement between you and CoinsTree governing your access to and use of the CoinsTree website, online marketplace, related applications, tools, features, and services collectively referred to as the “Platform”.

By creating an account, completing buyer or seller verification, publishing a listing, submitting an offer, placing a bid, purchasing an item, communicating with another user, or otherwise accessing or using the Platform, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be legally bound by these Terms.

If you do not agree with these Terms, you must not register for, access, or use CoinsTree.

1. Company Information and Nature of the Platform

CoinsTree operates a specialised online marketplace designed primarily for the listing, discovery, buying, and selling of coins, banknotes, tokens, medals, and other permitted numismatic or collectible items.

CoinsTree provides digital marketplace infrastructure that enables independent users to communicate and enter into transactions with one another.

Unless expressly stated otherwise in relation to a specific service or item, CoinsTree does not act as:

  • The owner of items listed by independent Sellers
  • A dealer or reseller of items listed by independent Sellers
  • An agent authorised to enter into contracts on behalf of Buyers or Sellers
  • A financial institution, bank, or payment processor
  • An authentication, grading, valuation, or appraisal service

The availability of marketplace tools, payment integrations, messaging services, bidding systems, offer systems, or other Platform features does not make CoinsTree the Buyer or Seller in a transaction between independent users.

2. Marketplace Relationship Between Buyers and Sellers

When a Buyer purchases an item from an independent Seller, the contract for the sale of that item is entered into directly between the Buyer and the Seller.

The Seller is responsible for the item, listing information, ownership, condition description, pricing, packaging, dispatch, and fulfilment of the transaction.

The Buyer is responsible for reviewing the listing, understanding the item being purchased, completing payment when required, and providing accurate information necessary for delivery.

CoinsTree provides the technical infrastructure through which users may discover listings and interact with one another. CoinsTree may administer Platform rules, remove content, restrict accounts, investigate reports, or take other actions necessary to protect the Platform and its users.

3. Eligibility

You may only register for and use CoinsTree if you are legally capable of entering into binding contracts.

  • You must be at least 18 years old
  • You must provide accurate and current account information
  • You must not register using a false identity
  • You must not impersonate another person or business
  • You must not use CoinsTree if your account has previously been permanently prohibited from the Platform, unless CoinsTree has expressly authorised your return

CoinsTree may request additional information where reasonably necessary for account security, compliance, fraud prevention, or marketplace protection.

4. Account Registration and Security

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality and security of your CoinsTree account and login credentials.

You must not allow another person to use your account in a way that misrepresents their identity or avoids Platform restrictions.

You are responsible for activity carried out through your account unless you promptly notify CoinsTree of suspected unauthorised access and the activity occurred without your authorisation.

Users must promptly update account information where previously supplied details are no longer accurate.

5. Buyer Verification

A one-time $1 Buyer Verification Fee is required before an account can purchase items, place bids, or submit offers on CoinsTree.

Buyer verification is intended to reduce fake or duplicate accounts, irresponsible bidding, misuse of the offer system, and transactions initiated without a genuine intention to complete a purchase.

  • The Buyer Verification Fee is charged once per verified Buyer account
  • The fee is not a recurring subscription fee
  • The fee is non-refundable once verification has been completed
  • Buyer verification must normally be completed before buying, bidding, or submitting offers

Payment of the Buyer Verification Fee does not guarantee permanent access to the Platform. Verified accounts remain subject to these Terms and all applicable CoinsTree policies.

6. Seller Verification

A one-time $1 Seller Verification Fee is required before an account can create or publish items for sale on CoinsTree.

Seller verification is intended to reduce fake Seller accounts, fraudulent or misleading listings, spam, and misuse of the CoinsTree marketplace.

  • The Seller Verification Fee is charged once per verified Seller account
  • The fee is not recurring
  • The fee is non-refundable once Seller verification has been completed
  • Seller verification is required before publishing listings

Seller verification does not constitute an endorsement, guarantee, certification, or approval of a Seller or the items that the Seller lists.

7. Platform Fees

CoinsTree charges Platform fees for certain listing and transaction services. The applicable fee depends on the type of listing and whether the item is successfully sold.

A 5% Final Value Fee applies when an auction item or other eligible marketplace item is successfully sold. Classified listings are excluded from the 5% Final Value Fee.

The current standard Platform fees are described below.

8. Auction Listing Fees

CoinsTree charges a listing fee of $0.10 for each auction listing published on the Platform.

  • The $0.10 fee applies to each auction listing
  • An auction listing runs for up to 7 days
  • The fee is charged when the auction listing is published
  • The listing fee is non-refundable once the auction has been published
  • The listing fee applies whether or not the item receives bids
  • The listing fee applies whether or not the item sells
  • A separate 5% Final Value Fee applies if the auction item is successfully sold

If an auction ends and the Seller publishes the item again as a new auction, a new $0.10 auction listing fee may apply.

The auction listing fee is a charge for publishing and making the auction listing available on the Platform. It is separate from the 5% Final Value Fee charged when an auction item is successfully sold.

9. Classified Listing Setup Fees

CoinsTree charges a $5 one-time setup fee for each classified listing published on the Platform.

  • The $5 setup fee applies separately to each classified listing
  • The fee is charged when the classified listing is published
  • The fee is non-refundable once the listing has been published
  • The classified listing has no fixed standard expiration date
  • No recurring classified listing fee is charged while the same listing remains active
  • No Final Value Fee or percentage sales commission is charged when a classified item is sold
  • The Seller keeps the full sale amount from a classified transaction, subject to any third-party payment processing charges

A classified listing may remain active until removed by the Seller, closed following a transaction, removed by CoinsTree under these Terms, or otherwise discontinued in accordance with Platform rules.

CoinsTree may introduce reasonable inactive-listing management measures where necessary to maintain the quality and accuracy of marketplace listings. This may include requesting confirmation that an older listing remains available.

10. Final Value Fee

CoinsTree charges a 5% Final Value Fee when an auction item or other eligible marketplace item is successfully sold. Classified listings are excluded from this fee.

The 5% Final Value Fee is calculated using the final item sale price and is deducted from the Seller's payment after the transaction is completed.

  • The 5% Final Value Fee applies only when an eligible item is successfully sold
  • No Final Value Fee is charged if the eligible item does not sell
  • The fee is calculated from the final item sale price
  • The fee may be automatically deducted from the Seller's payment
  • Classified listings are not subject to the 5% Final Value Fee
  • The fee is non-refundable once the transaction has been completed, except where required by applicable law or expressly approved by CoinsTree

For example, if an eligible item sells for $100, the CoinsTree Final Value Fee is $5.

Separate charges imposed by PayPal, card providers, payment processors, banks, currency conversion providers, or other third-party services may still apply. These third-party charges are separate from CoinsTree Platform fees and are determined by the relevant third-party provider.

11. Changes to Fees

CoinsTree may change, introduce, or discontinue Platform fees from time to time.

Where a fee change affects future listings or future use of a paid Platform service, the current fee will be displayed through the Platform or relevant fee information before the charge is incurred.

Unless required by law or necessary to correct an obvious pricing error, a later fee change will not retrospectively increase a Platform fee that was already properly charged for a completed purchase of a CoinsTree service.

12. Seller Obligations

Sellers are responsible for all items they list and all information included in their listings.

By publishing a listing, the Seller confirms that:

  • The Seller owns the item or has lawful authority to sell it
  • The item may legally be offered for sale
  • The listing description is accurate and not intentionally misleading
  • Images used in the listing accurately represent the item being offered unless clearly identified as reference images
  • Known significant defects, damage, alterations, repairs, or relevant condition issues are disclosed where reasonably material to the listing
  • The Seller will not knowingly offer counterfeit, stolen, or prohibited items
  • The Seller will comply with applicable tax, customs, export, and import obligations

Sellers must not deliberately manipulate titles, descriptions, categories, item details, or images in a manner intended to deceive Buyers or interfere with marketplace search results.

13. Numismatic Descriptions and Authenticity

Unless CoinsTree expressly states that a particular item or service has been independently authenticated by CoinsTree, CoinsTree does not authenticate, grade, certify, value, or guarantee items listed by independent Sellers.

Statements relating to authenticity, attribution, mint, date, denomination, variety, rarity, metal, weight, grade, provenance, historical significance, or condition are the responsibility of the Seller who publishes the listing.

Sellers must have a reasonable basis for material factual statements contained in their listings.

Buyers should review listing images, descriptions, Seller information, and any available supporting details before purchasing or bidding.

14. Prohibited Listings

CoinsTree may prohibit or remove items that are unlawful, suspected to be stolen, counterfeit, fraudulent, or otherwise unsuitable for the Platform.

Users must not knowingly list:

  • Stolen property
  • Items that the Seller has no lawful authority to sell
  • Counterfeit items presented as genuine
  • Fraudulent reproductions presented in a misleading manner
  • Items prohibited by applicable law
  • Items whose sale would infringe applicable sanctions, import, export, or cultural property restrictions

CoinsTree may remove or restrict a listing while reviewing concerns relating to authenticity, ownership, legality, or Platform safety.

15. Auction Rules

Auction listings may allow verified Buyers to submit bids during the stated auction period.

A bid is a serious commitment to purchase the item if the bidder becomes the winning Buyer in accordance with the auction rules displayed on the Platform.

Buyers must not:

  • Bid without a genuine intention to complete the purchase
  • Use multiple accounts to manipulate bidding
  • Coordinate artificial bids intended to increase an auction price
  • Attempt to disrupt another user's auction
  • Submit bids for fraudulent, abusive, or testing purposes

Sellers must not directly or indirectly bid on their own items or arrange for another person to place artificial bids for the purpose of increasing the apparent price or demand for an item.

CoinsTree may investigate suspicious auction activity and may cancel bids, restrict accounts, remove listings, or suspend users where manipulation or abuse is reasonably suspected.

16. Offers

Where a Seller enables offers, verified Buyers may submit offers through the available Platform features.

Buyers must only submit offers that they genuinely intend to honour if accepted.

Repeated submission of unrealistic, abusive, deceptive, or intentionally disruptive offers may result in restrictions being placed on the account.

A Seller may accept or reject an offer in accordance with the functionality available on the Platform.

17. Buyer Obligations

Buyers are responsible for carefully reviewing a listing before purchasing, placing a bid, or submitting an offer.

Buyers must:

  • Provide accurate delivery and account information
  • Complete payment within the applicable transaction period
  • Honour valid winning bids and accepted purchase commitments
  • Communicate honestly with Sellers
  • Not misuse payment disputes or chargeback procedures
  • Not use multiple accounts to avoid restrictions or manipulate marketplace activity

Failure to complete purchases following repeated winning bids, accepted offers, or other confirmed purchase commitments may result in account restrictions or suspension.

18. Payment Processing

Payments may be processed through independent third-party payment providers made available through or accepted in connection with the Platform.

The availability of a payment method may depend on the Seller, Buyer location, transaction type, currency, or the payment integrations available at the relevant time.

Third-party payment providers may apply their own terms, fees, currency conversion rates, identity checks, transaction monitoring, holds, reserves, or dispute procedures.

CoinsTree is not a bank or payment processor and does not control independent third-party payment provider decisions.

19. Shipping and Delivery

Unless expressly stated otherwise, the Seller is responsible for properly packaging and dispatching sold items.

The Seller is responsible for selecting an appropriate shipping service and complying with applicable postal, courier, customs, and export requirements.

Sellers should retain appropriate evidence of dispatch and tracking information where a tracked or registered delivery service is used.

Buyers are responsible for providing an accurate delivery address and any information reasonably required for delivery or customs processing.

Delivery estimates may be affected by postal operators, couriers, customs authorities, border processes, weather, strikes, or other circumstances outside the direct control of CoinsTree.

20. Customs, Import Charges, and Taxes

International transactions may be subject to customs declarations, import duties, taxes, handling charges, or other government or carrier fees.

Users are responsible for understanding obligations that apply to their transaction, location, and status.

Sellers must provide accurate information where legally required for customs documentation.

Buyers may be responsible for applicable import duties, taxes, or customs charges imposed by the destination country or relevant authorities.

21. Consumer and Business Sellers

Different legal rights and obligations may apply depending on whether a Seller is acting as a private individual or as a trader or business.

Sellers are responsible for accurately representing their status where the Platform requests this information and for complying with consumer protection, distance selling, disclosure, cancellation, refund, and other legal obligations that apply to them.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or restricts statutory rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted.

22. Returns, Cancellations, and Refunds

Rights relating to returns, cancellation, and refunds may depend on applicable law, the status of the Seller, the nature of the item, the reason for the return, and the circumstances of the transaction.

A Seller acting as a trader may have legal obligations that do not apply in the same way to a private Seller.

Users must not use listing terms or private messages to unlawfully remove statutory rights that apply to a transaction.

Where a transaction is between two private individuals, Buyers and Sellers should review the listing terms and applicable law and communicate directly in relation to any requested return or refund.

23. Transaction Disputes

Where a dispute arises between a Buyer and Seller, the parties should first communicate directly and make a genuine effort to resolve the issue.

CoinsTree may review reports, account activity, listing information, messages sent through Platform tools, or other relevant information where necessary to enforce Platform policies.

CoinsTree's decision to restrict an account, remove a listing, or take other Platform action does not necessarily determine the parties' legal rights in the underlying sale contract.

CoinsTree is not required to act as a court, arbitrator, professional authenticator, or legal representative for either party.

24. Chargebacks and Payment Disputes

Users must not knowingly submit false, misleading, or abusive payment disputes or chargeback claims.

A genuine payment dispute or lawful exercise of consumer rights will not automatically constitute a violation of these Terms.

However, evidence of deliberate chargeback abuse, fraudulent claims, duplicate recovery attempts, or attempts to retain an item while dishonestly recovering payment may result in account investigation, restriction, or suspension.

25. Communication Between Users

CoinsTree may provide communication tools that allow Buyers and Sellers to discuss listings and transactions.

Users must not use Platform communication tools to:

  • Threaten, harass, or abuse another person
  • Send spam or repetitive unsolicited promotional messages
  • Attempt fraud or deception
  • Request sensitive information without a legitimate transaction purpose
  • Distribute malicious content or harmful links
  • Engage in unlawful activity

CoinsTree may investigate reports of misuse and take appropriate Platform action.

26. Feedback, Ratings, and Reviews

Where CoinsTree provides feedback, rating, or review features, users must provide honest opinions based on genuine marketplace experiences.

Users must not manipulate feedback systems through fake transactions, multiple accounts, coordinated ratings, threats, or incentives intended to produce misleading reviews.

CoinsTree may remove feedback or reviews that are fraudulent, abusive, unrelated to the transaction, or otherwise violate Platform policies.

27. Fraud Prevention and Marketplace Protection

CoinsTree may use reasonable technical, administrative, or account review measures to protect the Platform against fraud, spam, duplicate accounts, bidding manipulation, payment abuse, and other suspicious activity.

Where reasonably necessary, CoinsTree may temporarily restrict certain Platform features while reviewing suspicious activity.

CoinsTree does not guarantee that all fraudulent activity can be identified or prevented.

28. Intellectual Property and Listing Content

Users retain responsibility for content that they upload or publish through CoinsTree.

By uploading listing images, descriptions, or other content to the Platform, you confirm that you have the necessary rights or permissions to use that content.

You grant CoinsTree a non-exclusive licence to host, store, reproduce, display, format, and technically process your content as reasonably necessary to operate, display, promote, and maintain the Platform and relevant listings.

You must not knowingly upload content that infringes copyright, trademark rights, or other intellectual property rights.

29. Platform Availability

CoinsTree aims to provide reliable access to the Platform but does not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free availability.

Access may occasionally be limited or interrupted because of maintenance, technical faults, security incidents, service provider failures, updates, or circumstances outside CoinsTree's reasonable control.

CoinsTree may change or update Platform functionality where reasonably necessary for security, compliance, technical, or marketplace operational purposes.

30. Suspension and Termination

CoinsTree may restrict, suspend, or terminate an account where there is a reasonable basis to believe that the user has violated these Terms, engaged in fraudulent or abusive conduct, created marketplace safety risks, or exposed CoinsTree or other users to legal or security risks.

Examples may include:

  • Fraud or attempted fraud
  • Fake or duplicate accounts used to avoid restrictions
  • Repeated non-payment following purchase commitments
  • Auction or bidding manipulation
  • Counterfeit or unlawful listings
  • Misleading Seller activity
  • Abusive chargeback activity
  • Threats or serious harassment
  • Attempts to compromise Platform security

CoinsTree may take immediate action where reasonably necessary to protect users, preserve evidence, prevent further harm, or comply with legal requirements.

31. Closing Your Account

Users may request closure of their CoinsTree account.

Account closure does not automatically cancel unresolved transactions, unpaid Platform fees, listing fees, or Final Value Fees already incurred, active disputes, or other obligations arising before account closure.

CoinsTree may retain information where required or permitted for legal, fraud prevention, tax, accounting, security, dispute, or regulatory purposes.

32. Disclaimer Regarding Listed Items

Unless expressly stated otherwise, items listed by independent Sellers are not owned, inspected, authenticated, graded, or certified by CoinsTree.

CoinsTree does not guarantee the authenticity, condition, legality, rarity, value, investment performance, or historical attribution of independently listed items.

Nothing on CoinsTree should be treated as investment, financial, legal, tax, or professional numismatic advice unless expressly identified as such and provided by an appropriately qualified person.

33. Limitation of Liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability that cannot legally be excluded or restricted under applicable law.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, CoinsTree will not be responsible for losses caused solely by the acts or omissions of an independent Buyer, Seller, payment provider, postal operator, courier, customs authority, or other third party outside CoinsTree's reasonable control.

CoinsTree will not be responsible for indirect or consequential losses where such liability may lawfully be excluded.

Nothing in these Terms affects any statutory rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted.

34. Indemnity

To the extent permitted by applicable law, a user may be responsible for losses, claims, or reasonable costs incurred by CoinsTree as a direct result of that user's unlawful conduct, fraud, or material breach of these Terms.

This section does not require a consumer to compensate CoinsTree for matters for which the consumer is not legally responsible.

35. Privacy and Personal Data

Personal information is handled in accordance with the CoinsTree Privacy Policy and applicable data protection requirements.

Users must only use personal information received in connection with a marketplace transaction for legitimate transaction, delivery, legal, or customer service purposes.

Users must not use another user's personal information for unsolicited marketing, harassment, identity misuse, or unrelated purposes.

36. Changes to These Terms

CoinsTree may update these Terms where necessary to reflect changes to the Platform, fees, legal requirements, security needs, or marketplace operations.

Material changes may be communicated through the Platform or other reasonable means.

The updated Terms will apply from the stated effective date. Where required by applicable law, users will be provided with appropriate notice or asked to take any additional action required before new terms apply.

37. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unlawful, invalid, or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.

38. No Waiver

If CoinsTree does not immediately enforce a provision of these Terms, this does not necessarily mean that CoinsTree has permanently waived its right to enforce that provision.

39. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

Nothing in this section removes any mandatory rights relating to governing law or jurisdiction that may apply to a consumer under applicable law.

40. Contact

Questions concerning these Terms, Platform fees, account restrictions, or CoinsTree policies may be submitted through the contact methods made available on the Platform.
