Hubertus Hierl (born 1940) was able, with Pablo Picasso's consent, to photograph him during a bullfight in Fréjus (Southern France) on 7 August 1966. A fortunate stroke of luck! The photographs show Picasso in an milieu that, throughout his life, belonged to his major themes: bullfighting.
Werner Spies, Picasso expert and former director of the Centre Pompidou, Paris, writes in the book 'Picasso at the Bullfight': 'Hubertus Hierl's photographs show expectation, tension, and fear... they reveal what Picasso sees and feels.'
Provenance: directly from the artist's archive - authenticity guaranteed.
