This medal is part of a commemorative series of the ancestors of the House of Lorraine, minted in Nancy.
From Ferdinand de Saint-Urbain (1658-1738), it commemorates the marriage that took place in 1206, although the medal was posthumously executed in the 17th century by Saint-Urbain. Subject: Theobald I of Lorraine ( ? 1220 ) and Gertrude of Dasbourg-Metz (?-1225). Author: Ferdinand de Saint-Urbain, initials of the engraver under the neck.
The Saint Urbain series is known for its historical accuracy, although it sometimes presents small inaccuracies in the inscriptions and in the names. The artist’s medals are in the world’s major museums and in historic collections, belonging to private individuals or institutions. The medal is from 1728.
