Ming Dynasty Fahua glazed ceramic statuette depicting Songzi Guanyin, seated in royal relaxation on a rock, carrying a child on her lap.
Turquoise, brown and ochre glaze. The face, hands and feet are left bare.
Guanyin is the goddess of mercy and protector of children. She is often depicted as a woman holding a young child because she helped women have children.
Dimensions: Height 29.4 cm – width 17.6 cm.
MING period (1368 – 1644)
Fahua vases were produced from the 14th century under the Yuan dynasty, in the province of Shanxi in northern China and in southern China probably in Jingdezhen, the site of the imperial kilns from the Ming period. This type of ceramic seems to have been very little exported and the seals of reigns are non-existent.
Excellent condition, perfect preservation of the glaze, no restoration.
A high quality piece
